Singleton Peabody Moorehead was born in Saranac, New York on October 15, 1900. He attended Harvard (BA, 1922; M. Architecture, 1927), and was employed by the Boston architectural firm of Perry, Shaw & Hepburn. Upon completing his studies, he came to Williamsburg as a member of the firm’s architectural field office responsible for the initial restoration work in the Historic Area. Moorehead joined the Colonial Williamsburg Foundation’s architectural office at its creation in 1934, became director of architecture from 1944-1948, and continued as an architectural consultant until his death in 1963.
